Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre needs a Gardener helper. 

The neighborhood centre is looking for a gardener helper to help plants in the community gardens and look after the flowers in the orchards. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year’s gardening experience. Previous experience working with weeds and maintaining a healthy plant environment is necessary. This is a flexible position that can be done from Monday to Friday. This is a full-time position that would be paid overtime.

You will be responsible for maintaining the health and growth of the plants. You will also be responsible for watering, fertilizing and removing dead leaves. This is a great way to get involved in the community and meet new people.

Gardener responsibilities include:

The Gardener’s job is to improve soil, maintain a healthy plant population, and provide adequate water for a healthy root system so that a beautiful, thriving landscape can be created. Although most of the work is manual, you will also be required to mow the grass, maintain the irrigation system, clean the leaves and branches, and remove the trash. Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow the garden to ensure it meets specific requirements and expectations.
  • Mow, trim and fertilize green spaces
  • Install and maintain seasonal plants
  • Prune and trim trees and bushes
  • Deal with pest problems that could damage plants
  • Mulch, edge and weed gardens
  • Plant and nurture new trees, flowers, and various plants.

  • Perform basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking.

  • Service all garden equipment and machinery.

Requirements and skills 

The most important thing for a gardener to have is basic knowledge of how to take care of themselves and the plants. You will also need to be comfortable with a variety of tools and techniques, such as pruning, meditating on a healthy plant, or using natural fertilizer. If you are a beginner gardener, you will definitely be starting with something simple. You just have to be confident enough; to stay informed and keep your plants healthy with a healthy diet, plenty of water, and regular exercise.

  • A high school degree or GED
  • Familiarity with landscaping design
  • Knowledge of local pests and how to eliminate them
  • Experience as a Gardener
  • Extensive knowledge of regional plant life
  • A love of the outdoors and plant life
  • Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilizers
  • The ability to lift heavy objects
  • The ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time
  • Knowledge of state health and safety regulations for landscaping
